Cincinnati Playhouse Interns Perform

Go, Dog. Go! Produced by Cincinnati Playhouse Interns          Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park - Off the Hill

The Cincinnati Playhouse's Off the Hill gang brings to life the classic children's book, Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman. The play will be at community centers and schools throughout the Cincinnati area, from West Chester to Columbia Tusculum. Performances go through May 19.

Eastsiders may want to visit the performances at Kilgour Elementary School, May 9th at 6:30 pm and Anderson Center at 11am or Carnegie Center in Columbia Tusculum at 5:30 pm, both on May 18th. Hope to see you there!

Cincinnati Named to Top of "15 U.S. Cities' Emerging Downtowns"

Cincinnati's Emerging Downtown Drives Population Growth            

Forbes has placed Cincinnati on its list of "15 U.S. Cities' Emerging Downtowns."  According to their research, America's major metropolitan downtowns have welcomed double-digit population growth in the past decade.  Particularly attracted to these areas are college-educated young adults, ages 25-34, who desire urban lifestyles.  

Cincinnati officials point to an estimated $1.3 billion invested in projects currently under construction or in the planning stages, including the streetcar line, Washington Park, the Banks, and Horseshoe Casino. Downtown Cincinnati, Inc. reports that the population grew 12% in 2011.  Increasing numbers of apartments and condos continue to come available.

Playhouse Produces "Double Indemnity"

Mysterious, Sultry and Treacherous...Double Indemnity at the Playhouse

Next up at the Playhouse is a spell-binding adaptation of the book, Double Indemnity The play is in the style called "film noir," so it is not normally seen on the stage.  Extensive work was done to engender the style with lighting, costuming and stage design.  

The play has all the trappings needed for a tale of murder... a beguiling seductress and a morally bankrupt insurance agent.  Will greed and lust in out? Can they create the perfect crime? Will the unsuspecting husband survive?  Can their relationship continue?  Running through May 18th, check in here for tickets.

Fortune Magazine Places P&G on its World's Most Admired Companies List   

Fortune Magazine has compiled its list of the 2013 World's Most Admired Companies.  Proctor and Gamble has been ranked number 2 in the soap and cosmetics category and number 15 overall among the 50 companies on the list.  The highest ranked companies on the list, in order, are:  Apple, Google, Amazon.com, Coca-cola, and Starbucks.  

The attributes that Fortune used in compiling its rankings include:

  • ability to attract and retain talent
  •  quality of management
  •  social responsibility to the community and environment
  •  innovation, quality of products or services
  •  wise use of corporate assets
  •  financial soundness
  • long term investment value
  • effectiveness at doing business globally. 

Krohn Conservatory Showcases Exotic Butterflies of Morocco

Starting April 20th - June 30th, Krohn Conservatory will be open from 10 am-5 pm so you can experience the butterflies of Morocco.  If you haven't been in the butterfly room and experienced a butterfly landing on your nose, this is an event not to be missed and long remembered.  Daily, butterflies are released into the space.  It becomes a lavish assault to your senses...the sound of water flowing, bursts of colorful flowers, and musical rhythms in a setting that will remind you of the marketplaces of the Moroccan region.

Concerts Add to Zoo Blooms Celebration

Zoo Blooms Features Free Thursday Concerts            

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden once again will burst into bloom in mid-April.  Did you know that the Zoo is one of only two accredited botanical gardens in Ohio?  Or that the Zoo offers the largest tulip display in the Midwest?  Over one million daffodils, hyacinths, flowering trees, shrubs and tulips will come together for one of the most spectacular displays ever.  With 100,000 tulips alone, the display has been dubbed "Tulip Mania."

Every Thursday in April, the Zoo will offer "Tunes in Bloom" concerts with free admission after 5 pm (parking is not included).  Held from 6-8:30 pm, the evenings feature some of Cincinnati's finest and most respected music groups:

  • April 11 - Jake Speed and the Freddies, The Turkeys
  • April 18 - Shiny and the Spoon, Shiny Old Soul
  • April 25 The Ark Band, The Cliftones

Ohio Home Sales for February, 2013

Ohio Sales Activity Continues to Show Improvement       

The number of homes sold in Ohio jumped more than 10 percent in February, as the market posted gains in activity for the 20th consecutive month, according to the Ohio Association of Realtors. According to OAR President Thomas Williams, "Buyers are taking advantage of the ideal conditions prevalent in today's marketplace, with historic low interest rates and attractive pricing."

Additionally, inventory of homes for sale remains at all-time lows and the number of days on the market continues to shrink.  Locally, the number of listings is down -6.25% and the median list price is down -3.57%.
