Great Outdoor Weekend 2013 - September 28-29

Cincy Great Outdoor Weekend

The Great Outdoor Weekend offers a huge assortment of free outdoor activities across the region. An initiative of Green Umbrella,  it is a sampling of the best outdoor recreation and nature education activities offered in the greater Cincinnati region. This year there are over 120 opportunities for adults and children to engage with the environment around us. You might get a little dirt on your hands learning about composting or water on your feet taking a creek walk. You might work your way up 60 feet in the air exploring the tree tops or pick up a bow and arrow for the first time and try your hand at archery. Best of all, all programs are FREE and open to the public. http://www.cincygreatoutdoorweekend.org/

Cincinnati Nature Center -

Monarch Butterfly Tagging, Sunday, 2-4 PM

Find out how monarchs say “back off!” and flowers say “free food!” as you learn about host and nectar plants. Play the “Egg to Mexico” game, then help attach a tiny identifying tag to a southbound monarch before setting these black and orange wonders back on their way.

S'mores-n-More in the Nature PlayScape, Sunday, 4-5 PM

Cook and eat s’mores over a fire and then head out to explore the PlayScape. Play Facilitators will be present to attend the fire and provide materials to aid in exploration. They’ll provide the ingredients for s’mores; feel free to bring additional food to cook.
