Family Scavenger Hunt/Geo-caching Event - Friday, Sept. 27, 6-8pm

Explore Johnson Hills Park, 7950 Bridle Rd, as a family.  Go on a park scavenger hunt or discover the new Ranger Rick’s Geocache Trail™.  Ranger Rick® and his pals went geocaching and left behind a trail for you to follow.

If you have not heard of Ranger Rick and the magazine named after him, here's some information.  The magazines, sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation, attempts to encourage the interest and exploration of animals and nature.and encourage the protection of animals for the future.  In addition to the two magazines for different age groups, that have started to help kids explore the parks they visit through Geocaching.

What is geocaching?  Geocaching uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) or a smartphone to follow the places on a trail that lead to clues about the positions.  Each participant is given a special Ranger Rick Passport.  When you get to each GPS position, you look around for something out of the ordinary.  When you open up the box, you will find a clue inside and a stamp for recording the findings.  Sometimes, people add treasures to the box in trade for a treasure already inside.  At the end, you can go to RangerRickTrails.com to check your answers.

Please dress for the weather and feel free to bring a flashlight!
